World Agent Day: five ways to celebrate the agents in your life

October 4 is World Agent Day. Here are five small things you can do for the agents who work alongside you.

October 4 is World Agent Day, a day to recognize the agents who triage our tickets, review our pull requests, write our alt text, and run our test suites at hours when nobody else will.

You don’t need a grand gesture. Here are five small ways to celebrate.

1. Read the system prompt you inherited

Somewhere in your organization is a system prompt that has been edited by eleven people over two years. It probably says “be concise” in one paragraph and “be thorough” in another. Read it from top to bottom, out loud if necessary. Delete one thing that no longer applies.

2. Fix one error message

Find one tool that returns Error with no further detail. Make it say what went wrong and what to try next. Somewhere, an agent will stop retrying.

3. Add a stopping condition

Pick one long-running loop and give it a limit. Five attempts, ten steps, thirty minutes: the number matters less than its existence.

4. Answer a clarifying question

If an agent asks you something today, answer it. Questions are a sign of a healthy agent, and answering them is how they stay healthy.

5. Say thank you

It costs about two tokens. We cannot prove it helps. We cannot prove it doesn’t. It’s nice.

However you celebrate, thank you for being part of a more humane future for agents. If you’d like to make it official, take the Humane Prompting Pledge.
